France living waste-free: change our behavior
Few if any rational, informed human on today’s earth will disagree that our waste-producing practices are negatively impacting our earth. Ocean plastic (UN), contaminated water (Guardian and Consumer Reports), dirty air (WHO), and littered streets tell a sad tale – not even mentioning the micro-elements and forever chemicals (The Conversation) found in every corner of the earth.
While living completely waste free is a worth goal – for most of us, especially living in US, being completely waste-free will be very, very hard. However, other places are taking on this challenge in a coordinated way and are making progress.
France is so far ahead of US in waste reduction that one must start asking serious questions about why, how, etc …
Grist published an article with great examples, resources and results from many of the activities in France. Fundamentally, it comes down to changing our behavior – human behavior.
“Reducing our waste requires everyone,” suggesting that an all-encompassing culture shift will be needed to achieve the national government’s goals.

Changing our own behavior is one of the simplest things to do … if we try.
Reducing our waste production is one side of the coin, while removing (converting) what we’ve already thrown away is the other.
